Mine is doing the same thing...and I just replaced the rack bolt. It is, however, seeping fuel where the #2 injector line goes into the pump. The car seems to be running pretty rich. It has GREAT power, but my fuel mileage has really suffered. My mechanic says the timing needs to be adjusted. There doesn't seem to be any timing chain stretch, so I don't see how it could be "out of time."

Is this seal a difficult one to replace? I think maybe it's losing pressure on that injector and it seems to be "knocking" more than any diesel I've owned. It's CERTAINLY noisier on the highway, so I'm assuming I have some kind of injector issue.

Any thoughts?

When the flowers bloom in the spring....I'll replace this on mine. I get a little rock at cold, and I could stand to raise the idle speed about 25 rpm, as it stays a little shaky while at stops in gear.

Ryan, I traded in my 91 Escort for my 83 SD. On the first icy day here in MI (12/23) I totally embarassed myself. My beloved SD handles *POORLY* in snow. I've been driving in MI for years, my '67 Camaro was the only car that was worse. I was hoping the weight of the SD would help.

Granted, I could use new tires. I see you're in FL. I'd consider renting a car rather than risk your ride...I shudder frequently when I driving in snow.

Studded tires/chains are illegal in MI, and I think in most eastern/midwest states.

I was reading the symptoms the other day and swung by the local parts place and replaced this bolt. What a difference! I was thinking I was going to need to replace engine mounts and it turns out to be a cheap, 10 minute fix. Way cool! I'm always amazed at what I can find out on this board. Turbodiesel, thanks for the tip!
