coupe rear window lubrication type?
before I finish putting my interior back in I am going to try to tackle the quarter window issue. I disconnected the regulator and the window is very difficult to raise and lower by hand. I pulled out the track in the front and it is caked withgunk. I cleaned out the gunk, but what is the correct lube for this track? nothing in the FSM I can find.

well I removed everything and bent the reglator tab that always gets bent. I think I should get some of the sun roof glide wax type lube for the tracks. mine still binds halfway as they all seem to do. In looking at it I noticed the bind is right where the front track shifts to the forward motion, as coupe guys know the indow goes down and back then down and forward. right at the transition the fron track binds. I noticed if I put a backward force on the rotating track it moves perfect. I tried it on my grease gunked passenger side track and it also worked. Im going to see if there is a spring at work I can mount on there to provide this rearway force and make the window usable. Will keep posting progress. I still need factory spec for lube on the tracks.

You have ventured far into the dark hole of coupe windows that I have feared to enter. I just leave the windows up and pray.

I use good ole bearing grease however white lithium grease is supposed to work great since it has less of a tendency to migrate away from where it is applied.
Funny though, I just repaired BOTH the rear windows on a coupe today. One had a bad motor. I installed the new motor, tested it and heard a loud POP. The stupid stamped bracket bent. I tried the other side, which didnt work for some reason. It worked twice when i powered it directly and then POP. You know why? Mercedes cut costs. If they welded in a reinforcement this wouldn't have happened however not doing so allows them to make this bracket in one simple stamp. So i went to the parts coupe and took those same regulator parts off and guess what? It had been reinforced on BOTH and the weld and reinforcement was anodized gold so this must have been a recall (if it was diy it wouldn't have been anodized) seeing as how this car was a year older than the other. I suggest taking the part off both your regulators and taking them to a welder and have them fab a little reinforcement.

mine is already reinforced, if the front track sticks even a little bit it will still bend it because it is trying to move it from 14 inches away, bad design. I think adding the spring will do the trick. I cycled it 50 times with the added slight force using my finger and it works beautifully. I just cleaned it all up and shot in some graphite. I am going to put some roof slide lub on there when I get it.

I've talked to whunter about this, and the design is poor. a spring in the right place sounds like a good idea.
I guess the next thing I need to aquire is a coupe... a customer of mine has a 74 280C that he wants me to work on... think it's the same window design?

I vote for white lithium also. I recently finished restoring a 62 Olds Starfire Convertible. It had white lithium grease on the regulator rollers and guides that was a little crusty. But, it took about 45 years to get that way!

this weekend I worked on the spring idea. no go, when that front track sticks there is just no way you can get the window down by pushing from 14 inches away. as soon as it sticks the motor just powers through and destroys the mechanism.I found the factory reinforced top bracket on a 85 coupe this weekend, even with the reinforcement the driver side is bent and non functional. so all those guys hoping the find the new bracket, its a bandaid for a bad design. Im going to try to cut out that section of a coupe so I can experiment with this for a while.
