W126 Broken drive ear, what to replace?

I recently put my car ('87 300sdl) into drive after driving it around and... nothing. Not a peep. I tried every other gear and nothing at all. Checked the linkage and everything is good. Disconnected a trans cooler line and the front pump is still pumping.

So my question is this; assuming that I misassembled the torque converter and broke the drive ear inside the transmission, what part am I looking for and how far apart will I need to take the trans to get to it? Just remove the front pump or is there more to it?

Or is it more likely that I broke the drive ear on the TC?

Thanks!

Anyone want to trade an old Volvo for an '87 300sdl?

you'll have to pull it apart to know for sure, but I've seen tc,front pump and imput shaft damaged this way. if the trans is bolted in with the tc out of the pump, it puts a lot of pressure on things, and the damage is significant.
I've never seen it in a MB trans though. just th400's and 700R4's...

I bet it was just the front pump.

I'm gonna pull it, I can't stand waiting until spring.

I'll just have to freeze my ass off.

Anyone have a front pump for sale?

Would I need the entire pump? Seems like I wouldn't.

there is a transmission at the charlotte pnp that someone took the tc, and the b2 pistons from... I could go get it for you after Christmas if you can't find one.

Well that's awfully kind of you, I'll check around here first and see what turns up. Unfortunately I live in an area with very few MB parts so I've been ordering everything online since I moved here.

If the front pump is still pumping, isn't this an indication that the connection between the pump and TC is intact?

Good question.

Doesn't the front pump get it's power from the TC input?

I'm also not sure about the flow rate, it seemed somewhat weak.

Should it be pumping 2 quarts per minute or so? Does it always get pumped to the cooler? Would the fact that it's in the teens temperature wise change anything?

Bottom line is that I need to get it apart.

Sorry, can't help on the flow rates and I know little about transmissions. I do know that the standard diagnostic procedure recommended on here to test the connection between the TC and the transmission/pump is whether fluid is flowing to the cooler.
