I use Castrol 80/90.
If the rear is off the ground with the wheels hanging, the oil going into the differential fill hole will also fill up the axles, which are at an angle in this position. Once the wheels are back on the ground, the oil from inside the axles will run into the differential giving it a level beyond maximum.
The $3 syringe from Walmart is a good idea! I've always used a 3-inch, soft-plastic shampoo bottle. It's a slow process, but it works.
