85 300D Turbo Engine Mount

I'm looking into getting new engine mounts.
There seems to be a variety of mounts with varying prices.
Any advice?

Thanks in advance.
Jay

APE has three brands. Coreteco, Meyle & Lemfoerder.

I've personally only used Meyle mounts all around (Engine, trans, diff) with great results. Not long-term yet, but they have been great with 15k miles on them.

Lemfoerdor is usually higher quality parts from what I've heard. But can't put personal experience with that.

I think the two blue dots referenced on the Lem units indicate the durometer, or hardness of the rubber. Not sure what the actual value is.

There is more then one thread saying the Coreteco ones did not hold up. And, Meyle also but to a lesser extent.

In the threads it is not always obvious what would caused the early failure of the mount.
If your Engine shakes a lot changing the Mounts may be only one of the factors in the shaking. A shaking Engine caused by issues like Injectors that need rebuilding, Engine needs a Valve Adjustment; and, so on will put more stress on the Mounts.

There are other issues like the Mounts getting soaked with Oil or Fuel that will shorten the life of the best quality Mounts.

I would also not forget to relace the Transmission Mount; since they all work together.

I second the getting the motor operating smoothly with the new mounts.
I put in a set for a customer and he didn't tell me when his injector started leaking on one cylinder... lemme tell ya, a motor with a dead cylinder WILL kill a motor mount! And FAST! also, take a close hard look at the engine shock and shock mounts. they are important to making and keeping the motor smooth!

If you're doing mounts, consider oil lines. They've gotta come out to do the driver's side and there's not point in doing work twice.

Also read up on the DIYs about the various stuck bolt scenarios.

And pull your fan shroud before lifting the engine.

I used Meyle's. No issues with fit. No data on durability.

I've never had to pull OC lines to change mounts, but it is a good idea if they're not recently replaced.
in addition to pulling the shroud, pull the accelerator linkage too.

You're correct. I got that backwards: mounts gotta come out to do the oil lines.

Be warned there are Chinese & Korean mounts about. May be Indian ones too. Dont bother with cheap ones on fleabay. Talk to fastlane or AllPartsExpress on this site. They only wish to sell quality.

Reply/Update

I've tuned the valves, replaced the air cleaner mount, new belts, timing chain looked good, new glow plugs, fresh battery charge, new fuel filters, new injection fuel lines(the soft ones), and going through the vacuum lines to find a pesky leak.

The engine runs very smooth and isn't shaking- I'm actually quite relieved. I'll be doing a compression test soon to determine how much further down the repair road I'm going )

Fuel has dripped down onto the driver's side engine mount at some point- I'm sure that's partly to blame.

Just trying to figure out which ones to go with. Will definitely replace the trans mount at the same time.
