Help: Threw code P1630
Vehicle: 1999 E300DT
What Happened: I was on a 350 mile trip on Friday and threw two codes. Once the codes were thrown, it seemed as though my turbo stopped working. I wasn't getting the "pep" out of the accelerator like I usually do, and I was blowing some black some when I accelerated hard. I was driving in 95 degree heat and stop-and-go traffic. The engine was running slightly (just a few ticks) hotter than normal when the codes registered. Codes: P1630 Drive Authorization P0100 MAF I'm pretty sure I just replace the MAF on the P0100 code. Can anyone offer some insight on the P1630 code? I heard this was the turbo solenoid? What do I need to do here? Thanks, What's happened so far: I haven't done anything to try to fix this problem yet. I've only used my Snap-On code reader to pull the codes. I'm not going to clear the codes until I get a better understanding of what's going on. The turbo IS working now and the car seems to be running normal. The check engine light is still on.

Hi Rick,
Thanks. I already searched and read that thread. Nothing specific to the P1630 problem/solution. Any more ideas fellas?

The interesting part of that thread was that Olivier had multiple codes, which you also have. Before you throw money at the problem by buying a MAF, have you checked the fuses? He said it was a fuse in the computer cover, and I'm not sure what that means. I do know that there are fuses in at least three places on this car, and that the owner's manual offers precious little help in deciphering them. There's a box in the engine bay, a panel inside the driver's door jamb, and a bunch of them under the rear seat next to the battery.

No offense to the OP, but after spending hundreds of hours searching this forum, it is so nice to have good thread titles and opening commentary.

I am sure you can appreciate this as you search other threads and weed through all the unhelpful posts, (LIKE THIS ONE, sorry). I have a '98 W210 E300 and assuming you are working on something similar, this thread interests me. If this is not the car you are working on....well I just have no idea otherwise. good luck.

Good point, Rick. I'll inspect the fuses and see what I can come up with before I do anything else and post back with results.
You're right Renntag. I'll try to do a better job of editing and posting information for future threads.

The link for the above came from this page I googled a few minutes ago http://www.google.co.uk/#hl=en&source=hp&q=P1630+mercedes+&btnG=Google+Search&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=P1630+mercedes+&gs_rfai=&fp=44e3f5a43d3598e9 Drive authorization system ( DAS ) DAS (Drive Authorization System) â?“ the systems used by MBZ vehicles to validate a key for starting the engine. This is also the name of a specific electronic module either built-in to the AAM or attached to the AAM that performs the validation. A few posts I read through on the net suggest low system voltage as the cause of the code. |

I thought it odd that you mentioned the code could be related to turbo solenoid until I came across this link below.
http://www.aboutautomobile.com/DTC/P1630 Different manufacturers use the 1630 code but for different faults. |
