Sad day for me. Good day for Tyler Hoover (Tylerh860)

Well after owning my 300TD for 19 years and numerous DIY articles. I finally sold my 300TD. It's going to a good home. Tyler Hoover is going to transplant a good engine into it and bring her back to life.
His transport man picked the car up today and took her away. I will miss her, but the desire to re-engine the old girl was just to much for me right now. I have started the 560SL and it should be back on the road in a week or so. After 6 years of being idle. I though I had missed a tooth with the timing chain, but alass its just a hydraulic damper in the valve train.
I've decided to put all my car energy into the SL. It's a wonderful car with only 100,000 miles on it. And I do enjoy driving it with the top down, whenever it's cool here.
Next on the list is my daughters 240D. A new head gasket, a little polish and we will sell that car too.

Tyler, enjoy the girl, she was a fantastic car for me.

Dave

It's still not a sad ending for the car.

It is in the hands of a Forum member in good standing, who knows these cars well, will treat it well, get it running, and it good shape for the next owner.

This car will live on.

thanks for owning the w123 300TD

Dave.

I want to take this opportunity for owning that 300TD and posting all those DIY guides. It was thru your w123 dash removal, AC repair guide DIY write-up that I braved the dash replacement in "Coda", my beloved w126 300SDL that Chad owns now.

Your contribution to this forum and commitment to help us newbies in working on our own cars is a monumental feat. Thanks for all your help!

Sincerely,
daw

I remember seeing that wagon several years ago.

Very nice. Wish I had known it was for sale.

He followed the build and gave advice not long ago, so he's still lurking.

I'm pretty much over W123s. They feel like old cars now and don't serve any more use to me than my SL. I really wanted an '95 E300, and you know where that lead me.

I have sold my 350sdl to Strelnik. He picks it up on Thursday to drive from NC to MI.

I could have sold it locally for more money but decided it was better to sell it to someone who would care for her.

A number of people wanted to buy her. One was a guy who had never owned an MB before, never owned a diesel before. Was willing to give me my asking price (+500 over what Strelnik paid me) but I just had a feeling that maintenance was not a priority for this guy so I cancelled the deal.

In the long run, $500 really isn't that much. I'd like to see the car live on more than I need the $500
