That's the sound my wife says the 83 300D motor now sounds like after all filters were changed, the oil changed, idle set properly, and a diesel purge.

She said "I can't believe how quiet and smooth it is, even with 231K on it". My response......"welcome to Mercedes-Benz".

Hmm. I wouldn't exactly expect it to purr, especially at idle. If you have good injectors, it might not be very loud at idle, but you should still hear the diesel clatter. Make sure you didn't set the idle too high.

Ok, so it doesn't actually "Purrrr" it is just a LOT smoother and quieter than before
