Where is my fuel tank screen?!

While cleaning my fuel sender unit yesterday I've noticed the black goo all over it - reading some of the posts here I remember that most likely it's the fuel fungus, so this may be good time to clean out the tank screen and replace the fuel hoses under there..... just crawled under there to inspect things and expected to see the big 46mm nut for the fuel tank screen but to my surprise I didn't see anything like that on my 300SDL!? See the photo attached - where is that fuel filter screen?!

I suspect the lower hose in the photo is the supply and the upper one is the return - but how do you know for sure?!

That's interesting....looks like there is no tank screen.....perhaps a replacement tank of some sort?

You need to pull that rubber seal out of the way and you'll see it then! And all will be revealed regarding which hose is which!

Is that a big rubber grommet that pulls down?

Ah I see, they added a big rubber shield over the opening on the later cars....so you can't see the tank screen....weird. But it makes sense I suppose.
