Oil Capacity on '85 300D

Hey guys,

This is a pretty basic question and it might even be answered in my owner's manual... I'm about to do an oil change for the first time on my '85 300D and I was wondering how many quarts of oil it will take to fill it up? I know my W202 takes 7.5 so I assume it will be somewhere close to there. Thanks!

The manual says 7.9, as I recall. In practice it seem to be about 7.5 to reach the full mark.

I put in 7.9 quarts with a little bit left over. It's near full on the little notch.

My '83 takes two gallons to reach the full mark.

Unrelated: I did an oil change on a 6.6 Duramax today. It took 2.5 gallons.

nobody's getting near that.

different years and models show slight variations in capacity. My maintenance manual says 8L (8.5qt) is the capacity for mine. I keep it in the middle of the acceptable range.

There are, in fact, several different dipsticks in 617's. The last version had an ochre brown colored handle. The full mark was raised slightly on that version.
