To Tint or Not to Tint...

I am not sure of I like the aesthetic look of tinted windows on older cars, but agree on its function. Wagons have plenty of windows to generate heat, and interest of would be thieves. I think I would prefer a light smoke tint over a blackout tint. What do you guys think?

Not sure I fit either of the answers you've got listed.
But I will say you have a good base color for tinting.
Never really cared for it, but dark cars look nicer with tint than bright ones, in my humble opinion.

It will keep your interior temps way down in the summer too, no more back/butt/leg burning when you get in the car after a short bit in the sun

Tinting these cars is not something every place will do (I am speaking from experience). The place where I got my 300SD tinted said w126 rear windows are one of the hardest windows to tint of all cars. Something about the angle and curved shape. But I believe your TD would be straightforward to tint. I would do it if I was you...

Some of the lightest tints on the market still block UV. You don't have to get that ghetto look to retain functionality.

this car got damn hot here in NJ this summer so i'm not entirely against it. I wonder about the rear window as mentioned. with the rear-defrost i fear the bubbling around the heat elements in the window.

I've tinted both of my w123 wagons but will not vote in your poll due to your choice of words. Mercedes, especially the w123, should not be described as "ghetto". It's smart to tint in hotter climates- how is that ghetto?

Although I'm not going to vote...

I'm going to tint my 300D. It's simply an issue of reducing the interior temperatures (medium red is a little warm...). I don't plan on going very dark, as I dislike the reduction in visibility at night.

What looks ghetto is when tint is done poorly. Do it right, and it looks sharp.

BTW, you can get window films that have zero tint - clear films that still block UV rays.

But, if heat reduction is the purpose, get it tinted.

No Ghetto out here!

Ghetto is a poor choice of words, many new cars come with window tint where the sun shines! (I didn't vote in your poll)

I tinted my front side windows with 35%, (also did a 4" strip across the top of the windshield!) and the rear side windows with two layers of 20%, and the back window with 5%, then put on reflective Bible verse!

It's your car, go ahead and do what you want!

The sun does get to baking the inside of any car without tint here in the desert!

I used the tint film that NAPA sells . . . the back window was more of a pain!

I just took this picture tonight, so the flash really brings out the reflective of the verse and registration plate!

I went with a tint on mine, but it's 40% VST, not ghetto 5%. I went with a good quality ceramic tint. I wanted it a little darker than stock but was mostly worried about UV damage.

Where's the option for "The original poster doesn't even know what ghetto means?" I don't know who told you that tint is ghetto, but it's not. God forbid you tint your windows and get confused with someone who doesn't live in a gated, master planned community 30 miles outside of town near a brand new Smoothie King and a Cheddar's.
