I'm nervous, very nervous.
I have not had anything to fix or adjust for a year. No valves, filters, air filter bracket, vacuum, no light bulbs, sunroof ect.. I am a few weeks away from hitting 300k, on this daily driver and I'm nervous. One year, 12,000 miles on a 26 year old car with only oil changes, it's going to come fast and hard.

Well...if you wantta get warmed up....
I mean...to prepare for what's coming your way....you should volunteer to help all us with our challenges! I sense you are feeling left out...abandoned by a car that just won't get sick on ya. Hey, anybody need help??
count your blessings...if you were up North, I might suspect that the problems are waitin' for the snow to fly...that's what happens to me! |

You must be at the bottom of the wave
When I first got my 300D I spent so much my wife declared it a hobby. But its been 3-4 years (bought it in '01) since I've had to do much to it.

I wouldn't panic over the 300K number, but at some point you will have to decide on your "intentions" for this car. Are you planning on keeping it for the long term and doing "whatever it takes" to keep it in good condition, do you plan on driving it for some specific amount of miles, or are you planning on keeping it until it starts costing significant money to maintain/repair?
Once you decide what your plans are, you will know how much effort/money you are willing to spend. Realistically, this car is reaching the mileage where you will start seeing potentially expensive issues. |

Stop complaining. Mine pasted the 333,333 mark
Have you done any other maintenance like trans fluid and filter change, differential fluid, air filter, etc?

Hey count yourself lucky, I've had to replace my rear brakes AND transmission on my W126 this year....and I am a ways away from 300k..... That will change fast though, if I get a job I am in the running for. I will have to commute over 35,000 miles a year.

I love it when one considers 300k as short term mileage.

LOL, that seems to be the point where some "big ticket" issues are likely to show themselves. Based on my 300D, there were some significant repairs in the 250-350K mile range:
Rebuilt tranny Half Shafts Timing Chain (original engine) Oil Pump (original engine) Oil Pump Chain (original engine) AC system Climate control system Cruise control system Radiator Vacuum pump Injection pump etc. That list represents $10K+ of items, before I replaced the engine and rebuilt the (front and rear) suspension in the 400-500K range (another $6-8K of work). This does not include several $1000 of "miscellaneous" repairs and maintenance. At this point, I need a paint job and I'll be in good shape for a while. The point is, 300K is a good time to decide if you are really willing to maintain a car for the long term. If not, you should think about getting into a lower mileage car. |

No "hail marys" involved. I just made a "do whatever it takes" visit to my indy, so I'm in pretty good shape for a while. I'm pretty sure all the moving parts have been replaced at least once.

Sounds like some deferred maintenance going on...the car needs fuel and air filters, a valve adjustment within the next 12 months, probably a coolant and brake fluid flush within the next 12 months, trans fluid?, brakes are good for 20-40,000 miles...so that'll likely get done in the next 12-24 months, belts? And let's not even think about the old car stuff...this is just maintenance. Yeah I'd be sweating too...
