My stick 240 is only marginally "quicker" than the auto. Mostly just being able to run up the revs on the stick keeps it out front.

My automatic 240D was a learning experience, but I got used to it. With it's power-windows, it's my 'lazy man's' car - perfect for those local runs to the bank, post-office, yard sales etc... Just not so great for long trips anymore. If I'm really in a hurry (or need cold AC) I still have the Nissan, or even my 5-speed 300TD. My first stick-240D was an improvement over the automatic, and a much better highway car. But my latest stick-240D is a noticeable improvement over the first two. So there's more going on here than just the difference between sticks and automatics.
Happy Motoring, Mark

My auto 240D has decent "around town" performance (at 6000 feet), it hardly sees the highway. If I want more performance, I drive something else.
