So....the new Engine mounts I installed that came in the trunk of the 116 when I bought it have already failed after 3 months.

I'm searching around for new ones and my two usual parts sources (Fastlane and Autopartsworld) both have several choices for the left mount, but only one choice for the right mount and both sources are out of stock.

I had always assumed the engine mount was the same part# for both sides on the 617. It seems when I did my 123 last year it was the same identical part for both sides.

Does anybody know if the 116/617 takes different mounts on each side, or is it the same?

Also...I'm going for the Lemforder or Corteco...think I'm safe with either of those brands?

No idea...but they were obviously new. Foolish of me, I know, to install an unknown part... but lesson learned.

They are now completely flat and I get a lot of vibration, especially on the highway. I can feel it in my gear selector. I can take the engine and rock it back and forth with my hand and I get a lot of movement...more towards the back of the engine. I did replace my transmission mount when I did all this, but I am certain the cause is the engine mounts.

I bet the ones you had that failed were meyle... right before I bought my '84 300SD from Johnhef a year ago, he replaced the motor mounts and tie rods with new meyle parts. The mounts went flat 6 months ago, and all 4 boots on the tie rods are broken. I replaced the tie rods with lems, and the motor mounts with some of an unknown brand he had in a parts car.

So I guess I can't give you any useful advice other than "not meyle"

Lemforder is reputable - from Germany. Auothause sells Karlyn mounts, which they told me are made in the USA. I have Karlyns on my 123 and so far, no problem.

i think you're safe with lemforder mounts. in fact i have a couple in the trunk of my 300dt if you need a pair

i got lemforders in the mail from ******** i believe. it's been a couple months now but i think that's the brand they sent me. maybe they send you whatever they have in stock, from one of a few brands they carry in stock

FSM procedure 22-211 for the 617 says that you should use different motor mounts for each side. However, I have never done this, and have never seen any third party motor mounts listed as specific for either side. If you bought mercedes parts you might be able to get them, but the fact that none of the third parties offer them implies to me that it might not be that important, but I could be wrong.

*EDIT* some third parties do make side specific motor mounts, as stated later in thread *EDIT*

While we're on the topic, my 126.120 is missing the motor mount heat shield that the FSM says I should have... does anyone know what the consequences of this are? Will the rubber just heat up and allow the engine to shake a bit more when hot?

Is it a heat shield, or a plate to keep oil/fuel from dripping on them?

I always thought it was to keep oil/fuel off them. Petrolium produts will
degrade the rubber.

The exerpt from the FSM in my previous post says that "engine mounts differ with regard to shore hardness", so you're probably exactly right. Shore hardness is a way of quantifying the hardness of the material.

I'm curious just how quantitatively different these parts are, but I suspect that the shore of the rubber in these things is not something the competing manufacturers advertise.
