replacement rear window regulator w124

what are people's experience with replacing rear window regulators/motors? what parts are people using? new? used? replace the whole regulator or just service the motor?

my '87 wagon seems to want to eat the left rear window motor. i have replaced the motor twice in a little over a year. both times i used a brose replacement motor from a different (vw/audi) vehicle. the motor itself is the same as the OE unit, the only difference is the connections on the motor. i am thinking i may have a power issue to the motor that is killing them, will verify.

but in the meantime i need a good replacement and there isn't much available that doesn't cost close to 200.00 or more. the new replacement motors are almost 200.00 CAD retail, the complete regulator is over 400.00. i have seen repops on ebay for about 90.00, wonder if the quality is even worth thinking about using them.

when you pull the motor, are you paying any attention to the regulators or the glass sliders?
this needs to be done every 5 or so years, and your motors will thank you by not failing...
clean and regrease with the glockinshpiel whatever grease MB sells... brace yourself on the cost of this grease though...

yes makes sense that lubrication somewhere could be the issue. is the lubricant you refer to the same as the one used for the sunroof?

I don't know if the wagon rear window regulator is different, but I replaced the right rear regulator and motor as a unit with an ebay Chicom part, and it has been working fine now for a couple of years. I don't think I paid more than about $50.

I like their claim Scott that it "meets or exceeds Mercedes-Benz specs for the original part", ... considering I doubt that they have even seen the original spec nor know how to read it and test the part.
