Climate control question & searching forum
This is really two posts, since I have had no luck with searching this forum.
What would be causing this problem? Car is a 1985 300D. If I rotate my temp dial on my CCU off of the MIN setting, I immediately receive really warm air in the cabin. Is this indicative of a faulty monovalve? About searching; is there a search function that I don't know about? If I enter a phrase in the search box, I get so many matches to posts, that it takes forever to look at them all. Any suggestions to these items? Thanks

I'll be the first to state/ask to obvious. Your car has Type III climate control.
Which button do you have pushed? Does the compressor engage? Have you 4resoldered the climate control unit? A siezed aux water pump will toast the climate control unit. Has the one amp fuse mod been done to save the climate control unit? There is a lot of information regarding this version of climate control. Tell us what you have checked/tested.

I have not resoldered the CCU. The compressor works. With the temp dial set on MIN the system blows pretty cold. The minute I rotate the wheel, the center vents close and the system starts blowing really warm air. My aux water pump failed a while back and I just removed it and placed a short piece of metal tubing in the space.

Did the aux water pump lock up? If so, that would stress the CCU. From what you are describing, I would look at this thread here................. http://w123maintenance.blogspot.com/2007/10/automatic-climate-control-unit-repair.html If you ever decide to replace the aux water pump, protect the system with a one amp fuse mod................. (from a post I did last year) Brown is ground, black is hot. You will need NAPA # 7823101 (Marine grade fuse holder) and a 7821042 one amp fuse. Splice the fuse holder into the black wire, if the pump does seize it will blow the fuse and not toast the CCU. Another area that is often overlooked, while it may not apply to your problem is the inside temp sensor. Check the foam hose that runs from it to the blower motor. Iinside air is sucked in over the sensor thus affecting fan motor speed and temp control. I replaced mine with a piece of 1/2 water pipe insulation covered in black electrical tape.

To search this forum, use Google advanced search. Put "peachparts.com" in the domain name for searching. You can use any combination of words, individually or in a group.........far more flexible than the search function that is part of the VBulletin software.

Clicking on 'advanced search' also gives more options to help narrow down the search. Is doing a search on a post by someone with a particular username easy on google?

I was searching the forum and found this discussion. I have the same climate control problems on an '84 euro SL. Did you get yours fixed? If so, how?
Thanks |
