you don't have to remove the whole console.

remove the ashtray and the 2 screws behind it and remove the bracket
lift the front of the wood up and slide it back
unplug the switches
pull the light out
remove the 3 10mm bolts
turnthe shifter gate out of the way and loosen the 15mm locknut on the shifter and unscrew the shifter

Pull the ash tray, then remove the 2 screws that hold the metal frame.
lift it out then slide the wood back and lift up. the wires for the plugs
makes it a little stiff. should give a little room for a wrench.

replaced shift knob w/ thanks

HEY GUYS!!!!!.THANKS........Just got in from changing out the stock knob! Intructions were DEAD ON....Only issue that I had was getting enough room to loosen the d*** locknut....VERY tight space, but, I did it and saved $35.00 AND it was pretty cool doing it! Even adjusted the angle a little bit to better fit my palm..
Thanks again......

outcome of shifter replacement

Pretty pathetic when something this elementary made me so happy! I NEVER would have figured this one out on my own, which shows how little I know about maintenance...Guess I took my first step and succeeded with this forums help...I guess we all start somewhere!!
