New aux. pump. Now car won't shut off!
Because I run various crap in my tank (veggy oil) I wanted to safeguard and install a large pre-pre filter as I have clogged a couple of the inline filters already (I’ve since perfected my oil processing). So I installed a transparent whole house filter with a 5 micron element. To help with the extra restrictive burden, I installed a small universal electrical fuel pump that comes on when the key is turned to the ignition postion and off accordingly. I tested it out yesterday and all was well until I turned the car off. The pump went off and the car continued to run it was a couple minutes and I hit the manual shutoff. Im not sure how much longer it would have run.
So my suspicions are the elec. pump pressurized the 3 filters and lines and was still feeding the system until it all equalized, but I’m also confused because I just figured (not too familiar with this car yet, only owned it for about 2 months) that there was an electrical solenoid that shuts off the incoming fuel to the IP and would block off even pressurized fuel. Can anyone solve this mystery? |

what vehicle? It's almost certain there is not an electric solenoid that cuts off fuel. The shut off valve is vacuum operated and you have probably caused a leak in the vacuum system somewhere when working on the car making the shut off inoperable.

I would recomend you stop running your car on that crap. Run the motor on diesel, thats what it was designed to run on. Use anything else and you will dramatically shortening the engine life.

I guess this is your SD? Like Kerry said - you probably knocked a vacuum hose off putting the 5 Micron filter in. Check the hose to the shut off valve and/or turn off the accessory pump and see if that makes a difference.

Fix the vacuum issues, Then get a real fuel filter.

Whole house filters are supposed to bypass at pressure drops over 7psi, which would be worse than no filter at all, because when you have no filter at all, you act accordingly.

Yes this is my 300sd. OK I'll check the vac lines. the filter setup is all in the trunk so I don't think I could have done anything back there.
The filter is fairly simple, in/out, so there is no bypass at certain pressure. Ill keep an eye on it to make sure it works properly. I just liked it over a regular auto filter because of its volume and the transparancy, so I can constantly keep an eye on it, and what can I say I am a glutton for punishment and a cheapskate so Im still gonna mess around with the WVO , but just be extremely careful with it to keep this benz going. Thanks for the help guys. PS. So there is no way that this may be caused from the added pressure of the electric pump? |

Yup, it was the little red vac hose next to the fuse box, must have bumped it off when I was sourcing a wire for the pump. All is wel... for now.
Thanks. |
