a new car to the collection?

I have a 300 d turbodiesel with too many miles and I am considering a 240d to my collection. I want to know how everyone feels about a 4speed automatic 240d I am not sure what year it is , but it has 216,000 miles on it and it runs quite nice with some slight cosmetic imperfections. I know you have to roll up the windows manually and it has bundt rims. I need to know how you feel about 240d's in general and anything that maybe useful or just anything about them. How hard are cooler lines to replace on them. It seems one is leaking but not sure, will find out later after pressurewashing it. I know the compression is good, it started right away even with a low battery. I had the car lifted up to see the condition of the car new axle the other one looks good. Trans fluid is cherry red maybe a little dark from not being changed at the regular intervals but no burning smell and I have driven the car. It shifts fine. One thing I do not like is the non oem key it, the car does not like it. You can not put the key completely in or it won't turn. The car has rebuilt calipers and I have heard that the owner took care of the car, I heard that from one of the employees at the shop where the car sits. But anyway any comment feel free to pass on knowledge experiences etc. Can you say they are better than a 300 d turbodiesel in any respect. Please comment.

The key thing is an easy fix at the dealer, especially after you get a free datacard from MB which lots of people here can advise you how to get.
I have owned 4 x 240D cars, and they are great. Not as fast as 300D turbos, obviously, but I drive 70 all day no problem.

My current two have 194,000 and 189,000 respectively and they run well.

I did have the trans rebuilt, but that was due to prior owner neglect after 4 years of no maintenance on the car.

ATs are a little slower than MTs but they work fine.

I have never run it over 85, and really it's meant to stay under 80, I think.

But it's a great car, IMHO. definitely easier to work on than any 300

I'm in love with the 240.

My first car was a 240 automatic. It was a slug but where I live is very rural so no need for me to stomp on the accelerator at a light and worry about being honked at. The car ran excellent right up until the day I put it away (because of rust issues).

I now have a 240d manual and it keeps up just fine in a city. I wouldn't call this one a slug at all. It cruises excellent on the interstates and its very economical. The best part is they are so easy to work on. Lots of space under the hood and everything is accessible.

I myself just found another 240 in great shape somewhat close to me that's on eBay. Call me crazy but I hope the price goes high on it so the temptation to buy goes away! I've driven 300s but the 240 is a great car. Maintain it and it will be your friend forever.

Collection is getting thrown around loosely here. I don't picture you a Jay Leno, but I could be mistaken.
