Unhappy so im driving along and suddenly

Today, i was driving my 82 300sd and ran over something that damaged the oil pan badly. i didn't realize it was damaged for another 5 miles. after feeling a loss of power and what sounded like a hissing noise, i immediatly pulled over and shut it down. opened the oil fill cap and smoke pours out. added oil and it ran right though it. engine will start right now as i tried for just a second. what are my chances of not being totally screwed?

Low. When it starts making noises/slowing down, it's gotten real bad.

Hi

When you pull the pan you may get some idea from what you find there.

If you don't find anything unusual, replace the pan, fill it with oil and start it up seeing what you have for oil pressure. If you have good oil pressure and no knocking it may come up roses.

Good Luck,

Joseph

You didn't notice a drop in oil pressure?

It wouldn't take long for damage to be done when the engine is under load. I had an oil cooler line blow, but I noticed immediately and coasted to the service lane before all the oil leaked out. Logged 22,000 miles since that horrible March morning last year.

well...it's time to say goodbye. replaced the oil pan filled with oil, fired her up and there was hope for a minute. oil pressure came up, everything seemed ok until it got some high revs. knocking/rattling at around 3000 rpm, i'm guessing...tach is broken. it is a sad day. any suggestions on the best outlet to sell her as is, is appreciated.

Hows the interior and body? If those are in good shape you could part it out and at least make some of the money back. Or get a fresh 617 and give it a transplant!

I just got home after being towed back from a blown oil cooler line incident. My hear is thumping and I'm hoping engine will run still, but I'm real concerned. I was driving 70 and felt a slight shudder and saw the gauge drop to zero. I pulled off on the next off ramp and coasted down and just before I was about turn off the engine it stopped on it's own. I'm gonna let it cool down, fill it up and put a make shifty hose to see if will run. I really hope so...

try locating a good junkyard motor. AS for selling it list it as a project car with a good body(if it has) that needs a motor transplant
