bought a new "diesel" last week
flew to Arab Alabama and bought this 1976 MCI bus RV conversion last week, was a nice drive back, had a few issues but nothing too serious, unit had been sitting since 2006, so the batteries were really weak, if anyone knows of a parts source new or used let me know,. will try to get the exterior painted in next month or so. only has 33k on rebuilt engine, previous owner converted from detroit 8V72 to 8V92 has something close to 495 hp, pulled the hills well, but would run on the hot side.

Yup looks like the Crusader II I had. Hope you do not have any air leaks at the tanks cause you are not going to believe were they are.

Nice. What kind of fuel economy did you see? Some Wanderlodge pusher owners talk about having to clean out their radiator fins to keep their operating temperatures in line. Is your cooling fan driven hydraulically?

That is pretty neat. I am clueless on how to maintain a bus. But I bet it would be fun to learn. What is the motor oil capacity of that "Mutha"?

Looks like an MCI 7. Good bus, lots of them around from the 'hound service.
The 8V92TA is a good engine, rated up to 500hp. Stickshift or Allison conversion? Probably a 741 allison of that vintage. Look up busconversions.com for info, the guys there are real tuned-up on MCIs as well as the DD engines, pretty hard-core though so you'll need thick skin. Lots of parts available for the bus, used especially, the conversion is apparently a home-built so look to your local camping-world for parts there. Also consider covering the windows and possibly a roof-raise before painting, well worth the trouble. Rust in the air-beams is a problem as mentioned above, if they rust you will lose air. Storing additional air in the beams increases the compressable volume of the air in the rear suspension and gives a softer ride, eliminating them works okay, but reduces ride quality somewhat.

These are cool!!
Back in the late 80's a neighbor of mine bought something like this to try and do a conversion.
The P.O had already removed the seating but had also cut a "ramp" on one side. They had actually used the bus to transport livestock. He gave up and parted it out after being unable to get the "stink" out . We used to see lots of these come through the truck stop I worked at on I-84 when I lived in Idaho.I almost fainted the first time the owner of a 40 foot Prevost conversion told me what he spent on his bus...I think it was in the 200-250K range! |

Now that's funny, ... considering a new one today can easily go over $2million.

averaged 5.58 MPG, cooling fans are driven by belt, the waterpump that is installed is too small, is from an 8V72, i have the correct unit for the 8V92, just need to install it, i also found out it had the 180*F thermostats but should have the 170*F units, once i installed the correct ones the temp was alot more managable, with the 180*F units the engine would get to 212*F and shut down
