Performax 617 Oil Filters, Who Makes Them; and a Pic of a Fram with all paper media

Does anyone know who makes the Performax Brand of Oil filters that Lube-N-Tune uses on 617 Engines? Or, had any experience with them?

Saw this on Ebay. I looks like in the past Fram used to make a 617 with both of the filter sections using Pleated Paper Filter Media.

There's a few China companies out there who make filters that are "OE Spec" and they'll put whatever name on them you want. I know, because they've approached me on several occasions to create a FleetFilter brand filter - I own www.fleetfilter.com and we sell Wix filters. Anyways (after the shameless plug!), I would imagine Lube-N-Tune buys the cheapest filters they can get their hands on, because how else do you sell a $15.99 oil change unless you use a $1.00 filter? It's possible, they buy those Chinese filters that are so prevalent in the market now. Fram is one step up, but not as good as the FleetGuard, the Mann, the Baldwin, the Wix, or the Donaldson. I don't use those quicky oil change places; I've heard waayyyy too many horror stories.

Thanks for your response.
I did some internet searching and cannot find any info on that brand of filter.
Champion Labs is also famous for making many "Brand Name" filters.

Except for Tire Changing I have never had any work done on any of my Cars since 1969 so the idea of having someone else change my Oil never occurs to me.

I am the labor.
The Seller of the Filters E-mailed me and said they were made in Turkey but can find no manufacturers name.
The Seller is within a one hour drive if traffic is good.
I would be curious to see what is inside of the filter.
He said I would look to see if he can come up with some more info for me.

My opinion is that oil filters is NOT where you want to skimp on. I try to buy only MANN or KNECT oil filters. I have heard bad things about frams. On the Dodge turbo diesel site that I also frequent, FRAMS have come apart on Cummins engines. My $0.02 worth

I do not want to start another Oil Filter fight.
But, all of the other internet sites I have looked at that tested or investigated Oil Filter were concerned with Spin-on type oil filters. So I do not know if a bad Fram Spin-on means that the other types of filters they make are also poor.

This Forum is the 1 place there is a lot of info on Cartridge type Oil filters.
From what I have gathered from this Forum the Fram for the 617 made in Turkey is good but the Fram made in Mexico ones have had some adhesive separations in the Full Flow Filter area and are not so good.

I have bought/used Bosch, Mann and Mahle Oil Filters bought on the internet from various sources. The Bosch Oil Filters seem to be the best quality low cost filters.

The up-comming problem is going to be when all of these filter companies out source their filters to cheaper and cheaper places to make them and do not wach their quality control.
Example: I bought a Black & Decker Hole Saw (now made in China) and it would not fit the Black & Decker American made mandrel. The fit was not even close making it clear that that their company did not care. Of course I returned it.
