I was able to stop by yesterday on way to work to tell him the series of events. He had just moved it and said he saw a faint trail of fluid. Hopefully he will get time to get it up on the rack tomorrow.
I did not see fluid but could it have been pooling in the splash guard/pan aero aid whatcha ma call it?

It is the turbo that is making the racket and lack of boost I guess made me think it was the transmission but again my troubleshooting consisted of listening to it howl while I drove it to the shop. I told the shop not to rush because it was not my daily drive and obviously they didn't. They put it on the rack and localized the howling and vibration to the turbo.
This is a KKK but the way I am if it has to be replaced and I have to do it I want to upgrade if I can. I will read all the threads to the VGT swaps. Suggestions whose wants to sell me one etc. etc. most welcome and I will post here when I get it pulled off... whenever that is.

VGT or VNT? Either way, talk to Forced Induction. Note, though, that fuel is the performance limiting factor in these cars. The factory turbo will blow as much air as the IP can support with the ALDA in the garage. If you have no plans of upgrading the fuel system (e.g., $2500 Myna IP), stick with a factory turbo which will a chore enough to source. I suppose a VNT can build boost sooner which would be an advantage with these heavy cars.
