I would next try a later W124 diesel such as a 300D 2.5 from the early 90s. My only concern is that those 5-cylinder engines weren't as long as your six so the radiator may be too "fat."

According to gsxr, the closest radiator fit is off a 500E/E500 so good luck with that.

I think the 2.5 radiator has a different lower hose fitting. It might be a matter of modifying a 2.5 lower hose to fit.

If you read gsxr's 124 Diesel buyer's guide, he suggests these radiators are 5 year replacement items.

Oops, it was in private discussions. Sharing these without his permission -

Radiators seem to be sacrificial on these cars, plan on a new one
every 5-10 years. Temps slowly increase over time. I haven't found a
cure other than replacement... the citric acid treatment doesn't fix
the radiator. The factory procedure even says to use citiric acid AND
then replace the radiator!

The core is identical in size to the 500E, and the tanks are 99%
identical... only difference (AFAICT) is that the 500 has an aeration
line attached at the top of one tank.
I also found this link in my archives though it refers to a 560SEC -

Here's a link to the buyer's guide - Need link to 124 buyers guide

I looked at pictures of 603 and 602 radiators in the online stores. The hose fittings look to be in the same location. My memory's very vague on radiator differences but I think the 2.5 uses a narrower core. Regardless, part number is different.

Try Radiators.com. I picked up a radiator for the 300SD for under $200

I doubt you'll find a 500E in a wrecking yard but you might find a 400E which uses the same radiator part number as the 500E. The only visible difference between this radiator and the 300D radiator is the reservoir nipple atop the upper hose fitting - right where you'll break it while working on the engine I have no idea if the mounting features are the same. There are used 300D and 400E radiators listed at www.car-part.com

There's a ton of GM RWD vehicles that have the same radiator configuration as an 87 300D. Our 97 'burb has upper driver side inlet, lower passenger side outlet and passenger side tank transmission cooler fittings. It's just twice the size of the 300D radiator Maybe you can do something with a new $90 S-10 radiator

i know autozone and kragen has weird shaped hose so i might just "rig" something so he can use the 300TE radiator.

You're gonna need a pipe bender too. 124 6 cylinder gasser radiators have the outlet fitting halfway up the driver side tank. That'a a long convoluted way to the water pump in the tight space between the radiator and engine in an 87 300D.
