86' 300SDL Window Regulator Replacement!
So anyways, Im rolling up the ole window and it gets about 9/10 of the way up and then chunks away without closing.
I pulled the door panel off and looked behind there...the teeth off the gear (on the regulator, not the motor) were GONE right at the spot where it should have made the window meet the trim. I can get another regulator...my question is...who is willing, nay DARING enough to give me a step by step for the replacement of it? Pictures rule!! |

...find me a find, catch me a catch...
I sent him a message to see if maybe he still remembers the process but for my model car, the threads on replacing the regulator were slim pickens! I'll see what response I get but anyone else who has experience in thie field, feel free to expound! ...one thing Ive learned...playing with matches...a guy can get burned! |

maybe a little help
I had the plastic sliding piece break on the back door of my old SDL and had to take out the regulator. If you have the door skin off already, that is the hard part. There were just a few screws holding the regulator in place. The hard part is accessing it without ripping your arms to pieces.
The one clue I can offer is to follow the wiring. If I remember correctly there is an electrical junction near the top of the door. Open up the junction box and the wires will come out (with their connectors on). This allows you to remove the regulator completely. I would recommend getting a block of wood to hold the window up and out of the way. Again the usual tricks of replacement for any window regulator. It is a tight space and lots of sharp metal edges. Good luck. |

At any rate...how does the glass come off the track? If glued...how to remove the glue and what glue to use to replace it. And yes...sharp metal is right...that rotten inner door nailed me a few times! |

The glass does not come out of the track. The track roller (part of the regulator) comes out of the track. When it does........the glass will fall......and, hence, the need to have some wood blocks to hold it up while you remove the old regulator and fit the new one.
