I think using other than kerosene is gonna cause a safety hazzard-and a lot of smoke.

i know theres shop furnaces that use wvo

People also like to drip wvo into solid fuel (wood) so it burns like a candle

if you don't use kero, or at least D1, you will clog the tiny filter in the nozzel of your burner. wvo will clog that sucker in minutes. mine will burn multi fuels, but it's designed that way, no nozell filter, it burns anything. perhaps yours is similar, but it should say so on the can.

Blending

We use used oil to heat the shop. I was hoping that a blend of fuel could be used. Kerosene, UVO and about 5 percent gasoline... Jim

I have a multi-fuel torpedo heater and I tried using clean diesel. It fumed so bad that I went back to straight kerosene. I poured k1 in while there was a little diesel in there and it continued fuming until the next time I filled up with k1.

If you find a blend that works without choking you out, please post your mix.

Figure out what brand and model your heater is and let us know. Until then we can only make wild guesses as to what your heater can and can't use.

I ran a reddy heater on a blend of K-1 and wvo. I used a 150 watt pad heater placed directly under the fuel pickup on the bottom of the tank, turned the pressure adjustment screw up, and blocked off most of the air flow to the flame by placing a soda 12 pack box around the back of it.\

I heated my garage for a winter( when I needed it) with only purchasing 15 gal of K-1. I dont recall exactly what blend ratio, but it was better than 50% wvo. make sure you empty the tank and flush it clean come spring, or be ready to throw it out....

I would not use motor oil in a torpedo heater- you do breath the fumes, and it is carcinogenic. recycle it at the parts store, or give it to someone w/ a real waste burner.

The only blend i had consistant luck with was 15% biodiesel, 85% kerosene. Even in the big multifuel heater Diesel made it smoke bad.

My heater is also multi-fuel, burns diesel very well, as clean as kero. Diesel is cheaper and has more heat.

I've always just filled mine up with off road diesel. It's basically dyed diesel fuel for non public road use. Saves the taxes, and burns hot. My garage is large enough that I do not have any problems with smoke. It seems to burn very clean.

The torpedo heater I picked up (used) had dyed off road diesel in it. I couldn't let it run for more than a minute without the fumes getting nasty. I emptied it and put clear kerosene in it and it ran great without fumes.

I notice this on mine as well. Fresh diesel puts out a lot more heat. 15 year old barn diesel puts out much less... barely enough to make the front plate glow red. And the smell was quite bad.
