'83 300D Fuel Lines

Greetings all you sages out there:
I need to replace the fuel line in the front of the car going to the primary fuel filter and on the other side of the PFF. I also need to replace it at the tank.

They are original. Both, I thought, 6.5mm. I am having trouble locating it. It of course needs to be diesel fuel rated. Any suggestions as to where I can get the fuel line? I have tried the local Auto Zone, mom'n'pop diesel stop, and autohauzAZ, and the mercedes shop and can't seem to find the 6.5mm hose. What am I missing? Wrong size?

Looking for help and wisdom where to locate the right fuel line.

Peace
TheLastBoyScout

5/16" fuel hose is basically the same inside diameter.

At the tank you have two lines both have one end with a fitting.

No need for hoses with fittings on the tank end. Cut off the crimped part on the old hose (I used a dremel tool) and there is a barbed fitting underneath which you can use for the new hose (with a hose clamp).

The regular fuel hose that they sell in the States at AutoZone is OK with Diesel fuel.
Often the hose you see is made by GoodYear; and at the Goodyear web site you can look up the specs for their hoses (copy the number on the hose at the auto parts store).

Also one of the Members posted a question a while back about using Fuel Injection Hose (I believe to use Bio Diesel). The answers indicated that it was OK as the hose was lined with a material with similar properties to Viton making it OK for Bio Diesel, Diesel, and possibly for other alternate fuels.

I used this:

http://www.goodyearep.com/ProductsDetail.aspx?id=5144

At Autozone - about a buck a foot IIRC

Use hose clamps, and 1/4 Inner Diameter if you remove the old hose, 5/16 if you don't.

The original hose is 6mm ID, and can only be found with the fittings pre-attached. They're not cheap, and I couldn't figure out how to disconnect the one from the IP to the filter anyways.

What is a suprize is the temperature range of the above fuel hose:34° to 135°C (-29 to 275 °F) Intermittent use at 150 °C (302 °F)

I replaced both of the hard plastic tubing’s going to and from the IP and the Secondary/Final Fuel Filter with 1/4 inch ID fuel hoses and used hose clamps.
The tubing from the Fuel Supply Pump has setup not un-like the Injector Hard Lines down by the supply pump; there is a nut that you screw off and it pulls up. Under that nut is a barbed fitting that the hose attaches to and on the other end up by the Filter is a Banjo Bolt with 2 crush washers. Unscrew the Banjo Bolt. The Banjo itself and the other end as started before have barbed ends that the plastic is shrunk around.

To remove the plastic heat the plastic area (wear suitable gloves) that is over the barbed area with a Butane Lighter. When it softens yank the tubing off the barb or use a dull knife to pry it off.
The plastic tubing on the engine side of the IP is done the same except that it has a Banjo on each end.
