Has anybody experienced insulation on the wiring harness inside the headlight assembly flaking off. Some of my wires where insulation was falling off had broken from the corrrison just could not believe what I saw, just hope that all the wiring is not like this.

I believe that there is a TSB which references a repair kit for those harnesses. I'm sorry that I don't have it handy.

It is said that Mercedes used an "environmentally friendly" form of insulation containing less chemical plasticizer solvents that evaporate and harm the air. Unfortunately, the new insulation protects the air by itself disintegrating. I have had one similar problem with my E300D involving the reverse light wiring circuit at the transmission.
