2:47 rear ends
Has anybody heard of a 2:47 rear in a 92' or 93' 2.5 turbo, or any 210 chassis, like the 99' E300 turbo. I kind of have my eye on another diesel and and would really like to know if it is possible. Heck, I have the 2:47 in my 84' 300d and that turned out great, the newer models could get very good mileage with more twist and HP than the older 617 motors. Any thoughts.

I guess all the 2:47 experts are gone for the weekend. along with the
W124 experts. I`ve read some threads on the swap, but into the W126 & W123`s. both pro & con. some shaking in their boots of such a drastic change, and others, yeah go for it. I have a 2:47 out of an 85 W126 with the spedo (160mph) to put into my 84 SD. but have been thinking about the 123 also. but the problem of calibrating the spedo. since I have the 2:88 Diff it`s not a great leap up. I think it is 14.2% increase. what did you encounter with the swap with your W123? did you have to modify anything? I know the yoke on the Diff has to be swaped so the 123 flex disc can be bolted on. Just the yoke swap, keep the 123 shafts, they fit correctly. I thought I would have to do some shimming as did Alberta Luthier did but I found it was not needed. I have had the car to Keywest and back and Cincinati and back with no problems. Mpg is up about 20%. I still like to know if it can be done in the 124 or the 210, there is plenty of spare torque and on both of these diesels and I find the benefit of increasing mpg would make these the highest in the MB diesel line-up.

I switched the innards of a 190 16v limited slip into my 123 housing. I think the 190 is the same housing as in a 124, so I suspect that the 247 will slip into the 124 housing too. We had to make a shim for the ring gear to make it fit though.

Did some searching and found the "Alberta Luthier" post about shimming. www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=222946 post# 28
Intersting you didn`t have to shim. how many miles have you logged on so far? Charlie
