I really really need an 82 240 pre-glow relay
Help! I'm stuck up here on this mountain in SoCal and my pre-glow time relay had a total melt down. I'm pretty much broke right now and can't afford a new one and can't drive the hour and a half to the promised land of the junk yard without a car.
If anyone is going to a junk yard today, I'll pay the price plus shipping plus a finders fee if you can send one to me. Car is an 82 240D. Relay mounts on the inside of the drivers side front fender (incidentally, I'd take the mounting bolts too, as I wouldn't be in this mess if the thing hadn't been sitting in a puddle of water instead of mounted). The part number on FastLane is P2058-62744 Thanks guys!!!!

If you need to get the car started, you might be able to physically close the relay. Remove the four screws at the corners of the box. Then look for a coil of wire with a bar on the bottom. Manually closing the relay should heat the glow plugs; just be careful not to short things out.
Did you check your strip fuse? |

I already took the relay apart. It's the bar that's over the coil that completely eroded. It was like there was a really slimy mud on the coil and the bar itself is mostly eaten away.

If you can find a piece of wire, maybe you could "hotwire" directly to the GP head for about 20 seconds, then move the ware to the adjacent GP, jump in and start cranking. After it gets started on a couple cylinders, get out and move the sire to the third and forth in turn as the cylinders comd online.
Just a theory, don't know if it'sll work but I'd try it on my car if I was in the same situation.

just wire them up to the battery for 20 seconds and crank it over with the starter junction box by the battery

deanna, did you get your D started?
you should be able to jumper the GP's right to the hot terminal on the GP. get some #14 solid wire, and stab them into each of the holes in the gp bundle, then clip them to the heavy wire or the other side of the strip fuse, if you want fused protection. get in the car, wait 30 seconds, and start her up. then go unhook the wire and put the GP relay back together. drive to the store!

Hey Guys-
I looked up the part number on my glow relay and it's: 0015459832 Which obviously doesn't match the one I was offered. Is it possible that 0025454232 will still work as long as it's for a four cylinder? How would i figure this out?

PS: I'm going to try to start the car with the directions ya'll gave this afternoon. I don't know jack about electrical, so it'll be interesting.

yeah, they don't make the relay for just the 240 any more, the 6 cyl version works fine, just doesn't need as many pins as it has!
