Hello Gentlemen, can somebody please tell me what the part number or model number for the turbo with an air recirculate feature, from a 1985 300D, 617.952. I know the one without an air recirculate is Garrett TAO301, but what I need is the model number of the Garrett with an air recirculate feature...Thanks in advance, any help will be greatly appreciated.

The Mercedes part number on my AIResearch turbo with ARV is 002 096 64 39 (1985 300D-T CA version). Sorry if that's not quite the answer you were looking for.
Jeremy

Why bother? Just replace with a normal T3.

Yes, the only real difference is the loss of the ARV which will give you increased highway MPG under *certain* conditions. I believe it is also a slightly smaller turbo. Generally speaking you'll never know the difference. If your adventurous you should check out the VNT/VGT options. Those will require a good deal more work.

the reason I asked is I have an 85 cali car that we changed back to like an 83 set up. so to speak.
got rid of the trap, egr etc.... runs like a raped ape. the turbo I have runs fine, but I do have a turbo off an 85 eng I pulled at PNP. the turbo must have been just replaced it looks so good. no play in the inlet shaft which is surprising. most at PNP have a lot of play. after I went out to get the #`s off this turbo I got to thinking if it was possible to swap the parts. so it is a go. also what is VNT/VGT? there was an 85 300d that was about to be crushed, so I pulled the engine flywheel forward. (ineeded to refresh my memory how to do it)
so now I have it sitting along side of the house with all my other treasures. Haven`t done the compression check yet (only had this since april, don`t want to rush things) I pulled the turbo, starter, trap cat. (I was able to keep it, amazing) I have access to a steam cleaner where I use to work, which was really handy to remove the protective coating. then I could see what I had. the IP was already on it, since being the 85 had the box and wire coming off the back of the pump. I adjusted the valves, need to check chain stretch yet. eng turns over ok by hand. I have a set of pre EGR manifolds to replace the cali ones. need to set up a stand for it and get it to run. and just wanted a back up eng. so Iam not in the predicament I was in last year when the chain broke. I hear that on the spare engine. Did you have the injectors tested? Raped ape? Idle ok?

Raped ape, that a saying back when I was in high school back in the very late 50`s early 60`s. runs real fast.
test the injectors on the used eng.? no not yet. Idle? haven`t started it yet. the engine in the car only has 8000 miles on it so far, a replacement after the timing chain experience. the eng is from metric motors with new injectors, IP and glow plugs. so this used eng is not a replacement for that. charlie WOW! you just reached 4000
