got transmission out today
(87 190d), thought I'd find a stuck governor? or broken plastic gear drive..nope,...looked @ b2 also, looked ok, not broken. (trans. would stay in 3rd). I guess the little screen-in the valve body is next. sure would like to know IF some "things" are going to jump out and go all over the floor? I've been checking to see about getting new clutch discs and brake bands-(since its out)..but too expensive, one place said I needed a new/rebuilt valve body(@ $2200)..next place wanted $1200 to $2500.!....so, if I got parts @ fastlane...are there any "special" tools needed? (to install the discs & bands)......or anybody know of a rebuilder in driving dist. of daytona bch? (reasonable & honest)..........jerry

If you split the valve body, there is a chance of check balls and springs going every where. To replace the clutch discs, the only special tools needed are a good snap ring plier set. Not the cheap all in one set sold at the local parts house and a good set of picks and a digital camera to take lots of pictures. Take a picture of everything you do, so you can put it back together.
