Tranny bushing replacement

I went to the dealership and picked up the transmission bushings for my baby. I think I am going to try to get up early and do the job before it gets to hot tomorrow.

If anyone has any experience in doing this job please let me know if there are any tricks, at all??

What exactly is a transmission bushing? Are you speaking of tranny mount or shifter bushing, or something else?

I assume he's talking about the shift linkage bushings.

There is a clip you'll need to remove from each end of the linkage. Then you pull the linkage out and remove the old bushing and put in the new one. Then put the linkage back in and put the clip back on, and you are ready to go.

There is a trick to it. Grab a 19mm socket, a quarter, and a pair of channel locks. Use the quarter on one side and the 19mm on the other to press the bushing in place.

I wonder if this is the same for the bushings on the shifter end of the manual rods? I have this job to do on an "82" 240D that i picked up a while back. I cant believe the PO was driving the car that way

When doing this be careful not to break the neutral safety switch.
