My '87 300D has an intermittant air leak that seems to be coming from the Fuel thermostat, or possibly the hidden place where the fuel hoses come and go after that (dissappears near the back of the valve cover) which I assume is where it gets heated(?).
What would happen if I just ran my supply line straight to the lift pump, and bypass that whole fuel heating mess?

i bet that 75% of the diesels i get to work on has the fuel heater bypassed, dosent seem to bother the running ability. where i get confused is why some one wouldnt just replace the o ring and keep the heater in service.

Thanks - I think I'll just bypass it for now so I can drive it while rebuilding the thermostat/heater.

Its fine to bypass it. It only works below 65*f.
