126 Trunk Won't Open
My "new" '91 350SDL.
The trunk won't open, button won't push in. Will I be able to access the vacuum line to pull a vacuum or pressurize to unlock if I go through the tail-lamp? It's going to be parted anyway, and the tail-lamp lense is cracked, so this wouldn't bother me if it'll work. If the button doesn't depress, does this mean it's double-locked and central locking won't unlock?

I found a pictorial a while back on the double latch (560SEL), can't find it now, but I'm not sure whether the lock in the vertical position means it is double-locked or not. On my 124 and 201 it was double-locked when the lock was horizontal -, vertical | meant unlocked with central locking.
If all else fails I'll just cut through the panel, parts car anyway, just like to get to the spare and tools.

No master key. Apparently the ignition was changed, the key only fits the ignition, no doors or trunk. Thanks.

Are you using the valet key? They won't open the trunk.
I assume you tried the central locking system already and its a no go? Can you hear the pump running? If the central locking system fails the key should still open the trunk. It sounds like you have the wrong key.

It will take you about 10 minutes to change the tumblers - when you pick up the new tumblers, get the counter guy to show you how to remove the iginition lock - very easy and you can do it was a large paperclip.

Took out the taillamp, reached in and operated the latch by hand. Wouldn't be my preferred method on the 124, but this isn't my 124.
Thanks all.

the trunk lock just stopped working on my '84 300SD. I have the master key, and I had it open yesterday morning. None of the power locks have worked on the car since I've owned it, and I've always used the key to open the trunk, and always by turning it all the way to the left, past horizontal and in a diagonal position, then pressing in while the key is engaged.
So the problem is not the key or the tumblers, the key turns fine. The button wont push in. It feels stuck. I know the trunk isn't overloaded or anything though. Somewhere inside the latch is stuck or disconnected. Help! What must I do to get my trunk open? This is my car, not a parts car, and I don't want to rip up the body to get the trunk open. Also, at the same time I came to discover my car has an alarm? Under the hood on the passengers side in front is a single single horn/speaker. It unexplicably started going off yesterday. I have no idea why, and I was not aware that our cars came alarmed. It was during this that I discovered my trunk issue, as I keep some tools back there. |

on my 560 sl,a shop drilled a small hole under lock behind license plate and picked it with a screwdriver. has happened again, and I have not been able to duplicate their success. thinking of drilling the lock and then buying a used one. would have separate key for trunk, but I can live with that. disconnected the vac system long ago. had to use key
