How do you repair or replace the headliner?
Oh crap. I was putting some windows for my house into the car, and put a nice hole in the headliner, in the rear passenger area. Is there any way to repair that without having to go through too much trouble? I want it done well, but don't want to rip out 12 pieces to do it. I'm sure repairing it will look bad when done though. Probably no way to fix it well, I'm assuming I'll have to replace the material.
Any advice? Thanks, Jeff 1991 300d |

I am not sure how particular you are, but those vinyl repair kits are not difficult to use. You are given different colors, and try to match the repair area a close as possible. Then you just apply the mixture, and use heat to cure it. If the tear is not too big it might fit the bill. I know when I had my 240d, it was a major project to get the headliner replaced. I do not know if it is easier on you vehicle.

1991 300D ala W124?
if the w124 is the same as the w123 I bet you have to remove the rear window to remove the headliner as well as front $200+ for new fabric |

What color is the interior? Unfortunately, I tore my Palomino one getting it out, but here's how it goes:
Remove four grab-handles Remove four door felt trim Open Sunroof Remove chrome trim at front edge of sunroof opening Remove Mirror, Visors, and Front Header Panel Remove A-Pillar Trim (2) Remove 3 per side black push-clip at top of A-pillar Pull down four black trim pieces holding the headliner in the door openings. I can't remember for sure, but I beieve that you have to remove the screws from the sunroof rail to release the fabric from the sides of the sunroof opening. I believe that the method was apparent when looking into the opening. Rotate support rods to release hooked-ends from roof steel (2 rods, one on each side between sunroof and front door opening) Remove rear seat Remove two c-Pillar panels (careful not to break the clip, I blelieve you push rearward to relaease the forward clip and then pull back forward, but you'd better check! Remove 3 per side push-clip at top of C-Pillar. Pull tab-edge forward out of rear of sunroof opening (hard edge inserted above sheet-metal) Pull tab-edge down and rearward from top edge of rear window (same as sunroof edge only rearward instead of forward) Rotate transverse support rod to unhook from each side. Should be loose. I don't remember what holds the material at the top of the B-pillars, might have to remove the B-pillar tri also. Wagon is different, have to remove hard panel at the top of the hatch, and I'm not sure what happens at the top of the T-pillars. Big caveat: Be very careful when attempting to pull the material forward out of the sunroof (and rearward out of the rear-window opening) as pulling on an inside-cut such as the corner around the sunroof will cause it to tear. If it's going iin the trash, no problem, if it's going to be used as a pattern or repaired, tearing it is a problem. Best of luck, going to be a job. You might look into covering the headliner with a layer of another fabric if the damage is large enough but you don't feel comfortable with R&R of the headliner, might make a decent temporary repair anyway.

Oh My God!!!
Thanks for the info, Babymog, but looks like I won't be doing all that work!! Nooooo way! I'll take it to someone, see what they can do on it. Fortunately, it's in the back seating area, no one (me) sees it unless I really look at it, but it is torn with a big hole in it, so I'll have to get it fixed asap. No sense letting crap like that just lay around.
Thanks, Jeff |
