http://sacramento.craigslist.org/car/541207155.html
I have a wrecked 84 300d with a good engine and tranny, i know the engine will fit, but, just by a miracle, will the transmission work also?

Yes, it will work fine. The only modification needed will be for the speedometer. The SD is electronic (with a sensor on the tranny) while the 300D one is mechanical. They can be swapped off the tranny for the two styles. I'd say go for it. Swapping speedo stuff is extremely minor/easy. That looks like a beautiful 126 body!! Don't let it get crushed!

Everything is identical except the little piece on the tranny that drives the speedo. Both the W126 and W123 use the 722.303 transmission. Save that car! If I lived near it I'd have already snagged it.

It will work and swapping the tranny tailhousing for the speedo sensor is easy.

It will swap over, But I do believe you'll need to swap in 617.951 engine mount arms, oil filter housing, and Air Cleaner housing. Also the A/C lines are different.
Hope it works out.

SOMEONE TAKE THIS CAR!
LOL i took it to my uncles to pull the engine. now that i'm done my aunt gave me one week to get the car gone. i really have no use for a second SD... some of the parts would be nice to have. but i'd rather sell the car to a benz lover and see it on the road then grab the few parts i need and scrap it. the interior is 95% its missing some floor mats but the seats and door panels are 100% everything but the dash is 100%. its a nice car. i just can't have it any longer. i have the tranny if you want it. it shifts. but it slips bad and shifts horribly. but maybe you need it for parts.

You also need to get a W126 oil filter. The housing for a W123 will not fit in a W126 body. The oil pressure gauge in a W126 is also electric so you need to get the proper sender.
You should also get an AC compressor mount as the compressor mounts on the left side in a W126.

Heres the deal. I realy want this car. THe problem is that right now, were in the process of moving, and at the same time my mom got sick, and now shes in the hospital. She is suffering from liver failure (alcohol) so weve had alot of people here visiting, and my dad is too busy to talk to me. I told him last night "hey theres a sd, I basicaly need your help towing it and well have a home for our engine and transmission" and he basicaly shrugged me on. Were all damn busy, and hes a fulltime firefighter and he goes back soon, so that takes away even more time. The only problem i have here is actauly getting the car to Cameron Park. How much would it cost to have a tow service pick it up? Sirnik, Ill get your car, I just need to figure out how.

I'm sorry for your troubles, TurboBenz. That's really rough. It's good you're cutting your dad some slack -- your mom's decline is surely very hard on him, too.
I also see that you and SirNik are going to find a way to work this out, and you may get not only a new-to-you car, but a Benz-buddy, as well. That's way cool. Best of luck and keep us posted.
