1995 E300D - opinions
Hmm - there's a 1995 E300D for sale locally for $9,750. 160,000 kms or 100,000 miles
Anyone have any experience working on or driving one of these. Before I even wonder if I should be tempted ... it certainly doesn't LOOK as impressive as my old 300sd! |

The '95 is the last of the W124 bodies, which many here are fond of, including me. It also has the then-new M606 engine (6 cylinders, double overhead cams, normally aspirated, excellent fuel economy). I don't know Toronto prices; the mileage is low, what about service records?

I like the '95 E300 alot. I have had an opportunity to work on one with about 230k miles on it and don't have anything but good things to say about it (with the exception of changing the glow plugs). Owner reports that she constantly gets 35 mpg with it.

Thanks guys, this is a toughie.
I am going to have to sleep on this. It looks like the E300D is a nice vehicle to drive, with excellent fuel economy. Probably nippier in town than the w126 chassis, better performance, less body roll, quieter and so on. On the downside w124 parts look more expensive than w126 parts and the car must be harder to work on - less space in the engine compartment, more electronics and so on. My 83 300sd has less mileage than the E300D and is running well. Plus I invested in a complete re-build of the front end last summer. And the old girl looks like a classic I can't afford to run them both so ... if the E300D is in excellent shape with good maintenance records then it could be a good buy. If, on the other hand, it has issues then it could be a major PITA. Worth a phone call - if I pass on it I'll post the phone number. Local Toronto number. |

I just bought a one-owner, '95 E300D with 55K for virtually the same money. The price of the car in Toronto makes me feel pretty good. I plan to pick it up on Friday.
