Turbo Oil Drain Grommet
Can someone tell me the final assembly position of the drain tube bottom o-ring in relation to the grommet?
Is the bottom o-ring settled above the grommet, in the middle of the grommet or underneath the grommet? It appears to rest above the grommet (lame design). Thank you!

The parts float a bit with respect to each other. That is, the tubes have the flexibility to move up and down by design. I suppose that compared to a flexible tube, this hard tube system does not fail catastrophically - but does leak more over time.
The bottom tube bottom O-ring is supposed to fit roughly in the middle of the grommet. There should be a place in the inside diameter of the grommet where the o-ring will rest. A place where the diameter is slightly larger than the rest of the inside diameter. Ken300D

Thanks Ken,
When I dug out the old one, it was hard to tell. After reviewing all the turbo oil drain line posts, I just couldn't find that bit of info. Since the manifolds/turbo is off, I'll "fix" the grommet, insert the tubes together and see if I can put the turbo/exhaust back on. Its got to be easier than all the monkeying around I've done with that two tube system.

I recently replaced these seals on my 83' 300D. After finally getting them in place and the upper tube bolted down I pushed the lower tube up into the upper tube as far as it would go and called it good. So far so good. BTW, I had one hell of a time doing this job. The lower tube was so stuck in the lower grommet that I actually destroyed the lower tube getting it out. I had to drop the oil pan and punch what was left of the tube and grommet out from below. Then luckily found a used tube at a local pickn' pull. I think what eventually worked well for me was loosely bolting the upper tube in place and putting the lower tube into position but keeping the lower tube grommet above it's mounting hole. Once everything was inplace I slid the grommet down into position. This allowed more flexibility for the installation.
