I'd hold off on asking me to weld...you'd probably be just as good as me right now.

It's going to be my new DD so I will definitely be fabbing up a roof for it. I've been told there's a shop in Tampa that does conversions, so I'll get with them for an estimate...likely go , , then and resume my plans to do it myself.

That doesn't look bad, and it is a very unique W123. Keep the pics coming as the project moves forward.
I don't usually go for major mods, but the W123 coupe looks nice as a convertible. I would never have the gnads to cut up a coupe. Buying one would be much easier. Buying one fairly cheaply is just that much better!

Now you are on to something. A longitudinal roll cage of sorts to restore some of the lost body integrity and a rag-top to keep the weather off of you and you are back on sane ground. The top could be a snap-on/off type thing.

Start scouring the bone yards for a W-111 or W124 rag top.

why not a fabric type toneu cover for the "cabin" area... with some tasteful mounting system.. that way when you get in the car you can just unzip the driver area and fold it under the rest of the cover. If you want 5 in the car just remove the cover and store it in the trunk. A waterproof cover for the dash would be needed as well.. but it is better than putting a top

It needs a convertible top to be drivable in all weather conditions. I believe he said it was gonna be a DD.

IT HAS ARRIVED!!!

I picked it up today at Central Florida Eurocars. I bet they were not happy to see it behind their dealership! The car was trucked by a transport company that deals only in new cars (and favors). It rode down from CT behind a Land Rover and under 3 new BMW's. It was transferred to a new truck and came west from I-95 behind a new CLS. The driver was picking up another Benz and then heading to Pompano to pickup an SLR!

YOu have the makings there of an interesting project. Did you feel a lot of cowl shake driving it home?

Also, with no ragtop you better pray for good weather anytime you take it out of the garage!
I had a factory 67 Cadillac 'de Ville convertible that would do the same thing. I've noticed other large American hard tops would also do this.
I felt perfectly safe driving the Cadillac.

First, I can't believe you left that green plastic on when you hit the roads....aye yi yi...I can just smell it roasting on the exhaust...(had that happen on my GN when I couldn't dodge a plastic bag in the road....stunk for weeks.

Next, it's an interesting car and probably will be a lot of fun...congrats!!

Last, remember that primer is porous, which is why paint sticks to it....that poor car tooling around or just living in a layer of primer is being setup for a life of rust...please, sand it down to metal and keep it dry before you paint...you don't want to be sorry 6 months after the sprayer finishes...

Have fun with it...and congrats!!
