Pilot bearing puller/ issues
I am in the process of installing a 4 speed in the 300TD. All is well until I try to put the pilot bearing in.. same part number, as what came out of the 240D, but it is too tight.. or it seems as if it is, as the center part of the bearing turns kina hard...
how can this be? The hole in the crankshaft is clean. could it be a different size?

mic the OD of the bearing and the ID of the crank bore. If there is more than about .005" interference, I'd grind a little off the OD of the bearing. Do a search on this subject. I went through this problem around april of this year. Good luck.

You have a few options.
Get the crankshaft machined to fit the standard bearing. Get a custom bearing size. Grind the bearing and/or crank by hand and risk it being off-center. |

If that bearing has to be smaller dont grind it by hand. If it's off center you can wind up with shifting problems because that bearing supports the front end of the input shaft in alignment with the output shaft.
Find a machinist to reduce the size of the bearing if thats what you need to do. |

Ok, I will try to get the bearing machined down, there may be a fella locally who can do that..
thanks Jason
