Did I get a good deal? 190D
Hi all,
I just purchased a euro 1984 190D 2.0 5 speed. The car is in near mint condition. It has been garaged its entire life. It has 85,000 miles on it. The mileage is verifiable and the car comes with all of its repair records. The body is perfect no rust, dings or dents. Mechanically it is excellent with no leaking fluids and it runs and drives smooth. The interior is cloth and it is in excellent shape. It has manual windows and a manual sunroof. The AC works well also. I paid $5,500 which I think was a fair price but I wanted to get others opinions. I really wanted a nice 190D 5 speed. Now I have to decide if I want/need to sell my 1990 300D 2.5 Turbo with 151,000 miles. That car also was garage kept its entire life and is in great shape. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Mike

Sounds like you got a gem. The price on these cars really depends on the condition. If the condition is as great as you say, I'd say it's worth the price and maybe even more. According to your sig you're starting to have a pretty nice collection of MB diesels. The 190D is a non-turbo, correct? If I were you, I'd keep at least one turbodiesel, but then again I live in a mountainous area. In NJ the non-turbos probably perform pretty well. My non-turbo E300D is decent in the city and on the open highways, but getting over the mountains is quite a workout for this car. For the TDI it's a piece of cake.

Yes it is a 2.0 non-turbo.

If it is as good as it sounds I would buy it for that.

Sounds like a good deal to me. I've never paid over $1800 for one of mine but they have over double (or triple, or.....) the miles as the one you just bought. Looks like you're in for years of trouble-free driving!
I'm curious how the 2.0 performs compared to the 2.2? Have a feeling that 0.2 liters doesn't account for much, especially with a 5-speed. Enjoy! Klaus

The 1990 300D is in great shape. It has 151,000 verifiable miles and I have most, if not all, repair records since it was new. It has absolutely no rust and the interior is in excellent shape. It has been garage kept its entire life. It is a light beige( I forget the factory color at the moment) with Palomino MB Tex interior. It runs great. I was hoping to get $7,500 to $8,500 for it. Someone has a 1991 on ebay right now with 300,000 miles on it for $7,900 but I think that is a tad steep. If you are interested please let me know, Mike
