1983 240d got it to go can't get it to stop

Well I got thru the vacuum issues and now have a great shifting car, shuts off quick and the door locks work. Actually, seems to accelerate a lil bit better. Well I have been enjoying driving it around town and my inspection is up at the end of this month so i popped by the inspection station. They went to do the brake test and poof no more rear brakes. The inspector said he felt the line blow out and that fluid is dripping down the frame by the rear axle more toward the middle. The soft lines running to the calipers are fine but soon to be replaced. How difficult is it to replace the rear brake line from the master cylinder back? I got an estimate of between $250-$500. I think that is kinda high plus for how far my mechanic is I'd have to have it towed. It's a lil nerve racking stopping with front brakes only and using the emergency brake

Anyhow thanks for any advice, this forum has been great learning and fixing a lot of things on my baby. Oh and do they call it a project car cause every weekend there's something else to fix???

As far as I know, at least on the CD, the lines are metal from master cylinder to the soft lines you are going to replace. So once they arrive, install, save a few $'s. Keep an eye on the brake fluid reservoir. Fix ASAP.

I got it on a lift t'day, and it is the metal line that burst, I am having a local mechanic fix that for me, he is running a whole new line from the master cylinder on back. He was much cheaper than my first estimate. The soft brake lines to the calipers and brake pads are my next project. I am ordering those tomorrow. Being able to stop will be nice. I also need a valve cover gasket and dare I attempt a valve adjustment. Then if I am motivated I will take a look at the A/C, i know the condenser fan is shot and the system is fully charged just not blowing cold.

U got it!

It is called bonding with your soulmate

I would not drive her with only the front brakes working. You are braver than I am.

The same thing happened on the Jeep. The 33 year old hard line across the rear axle went "pop" Lucky for me it was in the driveway as she does not go on the road yet.
