I just recently bought a bottle of Red Line 85+ from the Parts Shop, and would like to know how much to use. The side of the bottle is marked in ounces, but the label doesn't mention how many ounces to use. The label does say for a "cleaning dose" use 12 oz. (whole bottle), but it doesn't list how much to add at each fill up. I thought I read here that some people add an ounce or so at each fill up. I don't need to use it as a "cleaner", since I also bought a bottle of Lubro Moly injector cleaner. Any tips would be appreciated.

Redline Diesel Fuel Catalyst

I believe that what you have and the DFC that I use are the same thing. I put in 4 oz at every fill-up.

Good results

Greetings Rick,

When using 85+ I have gotten good results by either using 3-4 onces per fill-up just as a maintainer of cetane. I use the diesel purge every 15000 after the valve adjustment.

I cut down to 1/4 bottle per tank, and it simply wasn't enough-motor began to run just a bit louder. I threw in another 1/4 bottle, and all's relatively quiet again. So, going forward it gets 1/2 bottle per 17 gal. tank.

How Much Redline?

Ditto the 3 oz not being quite enough. A half bottle (6 oz)
per fill-up seems to be right.

Mario -

Redline's Diesel Fuel Catalyst has been around quite a while
and is for pre-1985 diesels. 85+ was developed for diesels
after 1984. Apparently something in the original formula
does not get along with the newer models' air pollution equipment.

I'm going to try higher doses of Redline myself. My mechanic adds a full bottle of 85+ at every oil change, and my tank was below a quarter tank when it went in. When I filled up, I took about 19.5 gallons, and I added about 3 oz of Redline DFC. I notice improved throttle response, and the engine seems to run quieter. I'm going to experiment between a third and a half bottle of DFC at each fillup, or tripling the 1 oz/10 gallon ratio. I'll keep you guys posted on what I notice. Of course, diesel fuel varies a lot by region.
