Rislone compression repair,anyone ever use it?
One guy on www.youtube.com used after video taping his failure of a 300sd start.He added another video which was a start of the car after 3 steps or so.He used this product in one of those steps ,any one know were to get it?To see the video go to youtube and search 300 sd no start ,then his 2nd attempt video is in the video selection bar.

I couldn't find the video.
The only way that stuff could raise compression is if the rings were gummed up and stuck and the stuff he used cleaned them and let the rings function they way they are supposed to do. Did he dump the stuff in the tank or the oil? Maybe the stuff burns at a lower compression so it allows the engine to run with lower compression. But if the compression is low on a diesel it's in need of a rebuild. There aren't any quick and easy longterm solutions to fix loew compression.

It's snake oil just like 99.9% of all oil additives.
Don't use any oil additives, it's a waste of money. |

I'm using the product now in my Benzes. I usually stay away from oil additives, but I had to give this one a try because from my experience Bar's Leaks makes good products and I was curious about this one. It's not really an oil additive; it's more of an engine treatment. It's supposed to clean the rings and (temporarily) fill in scratches that may be present in the cylinder walls.
In my 240D I have not perceived any changes. The compression and rings were probably already OK. In my E300D, my #1 injector suddenly clogged the day after I installed the additive and I had to have the car towed home because it had a horrible knock and I didn't want to destroy the engine. All is well now and I don't think the incident was related to this additive, but who knows. The only possibility I can think of is that maybe the rings were sticking in this cylinder and the cylinder had carbon deposits and this additive freed the rings and the suddenly higher compression blew out the carbon and some of it got stuck in the injector nozzle's pintle. More likely (but still unlikely) a large chunk of carbon from the intake (thanks to the EGR) got loose and ended up choking the nozzle pintle. Even more likely, it was just a bad coincidence and for some mysterious reason the injector decided to stop working. Afterward I disassembled the injector, cleaned all the components, put them back together and the injector was then spraying fine so I reused it. The knock on that cylinder gradually went away. Now about 1-2 months later all is still well. As to this additive, I still believe it can work when the problem is sticky rings or minor scratches in the cylinder walls, but I probably won't use it again because I don't think I need it.

Here are two points to think about.
1: If it can fill in the scratches in the hot and very active cylinder walls, what will it do to the rest of the system where there are less active spots? 2: If these additives are so good, why are there no oils sold with the additive already in it as a feature or high-mileage oil? |

I pulled a Toyota engine out of storage, had been there for years on a pallet. i was changing all the seals before installing it in the car, and checked the compression by turning it by hand and there was NO compression. an old guy suggested putting marvel mystery oil into the cylinders via the spark plug holes. i did that and the compression came back. the old guy said if the engine sits for along time the rings get stuck on one spot and stop making contact with the cylinders all the time. some lubricant on the tops of the rings fixed that.

Because some cars need it. I don't understand your confusion. It's kind of like shampoo and conditioner. Just because a lot of shampoos don't have conditioners doesn't mean that conditioners are totally useless. For the record, I don't use a conditioner.

It's just a bunch of people like us who don't know what they're talking about. I do know one thing... they're talking about some other Rislone product. This one definitely doesn't feel like a 20 or 30-weight oil. It's almost as thick as honey.

Heres the thing
i have 2 diesel Mb coupes ,one a 78 ,the other is an 84 .The compression test on both cars are coming back with bad results.My try with the Marvel product did bring up compression but some holes are still at 140 .I was planning on starting with the 78 and try pouring a cap full down into each injector hole ,spin the motor ,repeat ,then check for compression.Ill be happy if just one of them fires up.Ill post back with results ,what ever they may be.

The product is this
www.restoreusa.com , Its found in most of your auto parts stores ,the name change threw my off since the video showed a rislone branded product with the typed words ,"compression restore".The product is Restore now and comes in silver cans for various sized motors.I have an opportunity to do a little experimenting here ,Ill test the 84 300d with the Marvel Mystery product ,then do the 78 300d with the Restore.Both cars have seen the Marvel product installed with some degree of improvement but on this new run of test Ill do only the restore on the 78 with a day between data.
Ill be pouring 2 ounces per cylinder then turn over for 2 minutes in 20 sec. spurts.then check the compression.Ive recorded the first compression check ,dry, the second was wet with the Marvel mystery with a 3 day time before check,this 3rd time will be the restore and work the cylinders til they get hot.If this product increases compression like it says then I should be reporting back with a significant increase.One other mention about the 78 I had forgotten ,when I first tried a start on this car I was unsuccessful due to slow motor turn ,it seemed bound in some way ,I had cleared alot of the problems with slow turning motors with no help.Since Ive added the MMO it turns over much quicker but I know now that this car would of never started with what the compression #s were stating. ![]() |
