Trap Oxidizer - 1985 300D CA Version

Were the trap oxidizers ever a problem on the 617's? I have one on my 1985 300D. I have no problem that I am aware of, but I am curious about it. If I had to change it over myself I think that I could do it. I have a 1984 300D parts car was a good engine.

Go to a muffler shop and get a duplicate down pipe made now before the recall is done and don't tell them why you want one. What is done on the 86 and 87 is the remove the trap ox and replace it with a pipe. They then remove your down pipe and replace it with a down pipe that has a ox cat integrated into it.

When they do the recall they take your existing down pipe so you aren't tempted to put it back on. If you have a the muffler shop make you one now they are doing nothing against the law. This way if you choose to ditch the ox cat you can do it easily. Also remember that if you take your car to the dealer after the recall work is done you want to put the ox cat back on.

A trap ox on the 617 can be a problem if it breaks and flows through your turbo. Other than that, if you don't mind it robbing your engine of power and raping you at the pump it poses no further threat mechanically.

Take a look at the DIY articles at the top of the page.
