Diesel purge question
Everybody seems to recommend that Diesel Purge from Liqui Moly, however there is only one retailer selling it here in Sweden and I'd have to mail order. A local auto parts store however carries another product, Injection Cleaner from STP. Anyone tried the STP cleaner? Does it work or would I better get the Liqui Moly product by mail order?
Thanks..

I would recommend the Diesel Purge. I believe the STP is just put into the tank of diesel and run through as you drive. The Diesel Purge is run directly into the motor at full strength. If you want an additive to add to the tank, I would look for Power Service Diesel Kleen.

Leave the STP on the shelf. Diesel Purge is worth the extra effort.

Thanks. I misunderstood the homepage earlier, it was a distributor, not a reseller. Called them and they will be e-mailing me tomorrow about the nearest reseller of Diesel Purge. Will get a couple of cans, besides my OM617 we have a couple of those OM616-powered 307D trucks also that needs some.. purge.

...or if DP is out of pocket, just use straight vegetable oil to purge the system

Okay, so I couldn't get hold of any Diesel Purge. Distributor replied that they don't bring this product to Sweden (why they didn't say) but recommended some tank additive instead. Quite disappointed I went to the nearest parts store and bought what they had, a can of Wynn Diesel Clean-Up.
This seemed to work. Ran it not as instructed on the can (fill fuel filter with it) but as you members recommended running Diesel Purge, fuel lines squeezed into the can. Ran engine on idle, took a small trip and ran further on idle 'til can was near empty. Then I fed the system with fresh fuel and connected the return hose to a bottle to see what was coming out. Yikes! Here's some pictures too.. First, the Wynn product Second, what flushed out.. (1,5 litres of black fuel 'til I gave up) Third, fuel filter full of crud (replaced both filters after flushing)

That blackness is algae. Get some biocide in there and start running through some tanks. Search on here there is plenty of information. Any place with diesel products will have biocide.

You shure? Not just general crud from the fuel lines? That's what I thought it was.. Well I'd better be on the safe side and get me a bottle of that biocide stuff..

Thats what the crud is. Algae loves diesel. You will need to keep extra fuel filters in the vehicle with necessary tools to change them out. I suggest just draining whatever is in there out now and starting with a fresh tank.

Yeah, I know. That radio was in the car for about four weeks, got a Becker unit instead from eBay. It isn't the correct one for a fintail but I wanted one with a cassette player, so I had to grind out the hole a bit. Moved the switches downstairs, they are really not that noticable hanging there under and I plan to make some other sertup for them in the future.. Smaller switches and darker wood propably.

That diesel cleanup stuff you got looks like re-branded Diesel Purge. Probably just as good. Seems odd you can't get Diesel Purge in Sweden, you're not all that far away from where its made!

If you really want to get your hands on Diesel Purge, why not look on eBay and find out if anyone that is selling it ships to Sweden?

Experience tells that out of a couple of hundred online store & eBay purchases I didn't receive one single chemical product that falls into the hazmat classification. Either the order has been completely canceled or the hazmat stuff was just plain left out of the shipment. I'll stick with what's available, the Wynn stuff, it definitively does something, always better than nothing

Dont think algie can live in total darkness, therefore not in a fuel tank. Maybe it is bacteria.
