Ever just slack off?

Well, it has occurred to me that over a month has gone by since I was here-anyone ever get the Summertime Lazies? It's hot as balls here in PA, and I don't feel like crawlin under Greta, into the semi-dry diesel drip. I need to do motor mounts, and I'm not looking forward. My Harley beckons much harder than my Benz. Is it just me?

I've been looking for projects to do in my basement shop - much cooler there - windlace recovering; auxillary fan rebuild.

Then I remember how blasted cold the garage is during the winter..... I like the heat more than the cold.

Time to get after that droopy headliner.

I've got a lot to do and no basement

And the garage is sooooo cold in winter and so hotttttttttt in summer. That leaves, at least in here in Indiana only about 2 months in spring and maybe 3 in fall to get it done. Have a big job of windlace to do myself, just hope that Running Snail is a good teacher.

Oh yeah, I am in the doldrums. Someone posted a thread about all the stuff he needs to do on his ride, and I couldn't even bear to read it.

Its 95 in the shade here and high humidity. Even the house AC is struggling. I was out mowing the acerage with my old Gravely ( only because the lake is so low now that I can- but I don't want to). I replaced the front and back rubber windshield seals on the W116 a few weeks ago and I haven't found the energy to finish putting on the mouldings. Actually, I need to get busy on my old 67 Ford pickup before it completely rots...

... yup.
however, no matter HOW lazy I was, I would not drive a car fast or far with a tire showing a bulge and cord... I have had too many blow out on me.
I am working up the nerve to install A/C in the garage... I have the units, just not the time or money to run the thing in the garage. but OH how painfull it is working outside in this humidity! 98/98 sucks!!! I have become a fan of working at 4:00 in the morning.

Our first year in our new house.

We (my wife and I) built it from the ground up and the central air somehow got extended to the garage.... Only problem is the garage is full of all our furniture and extra clothing while we are finishing the rest of the house. DAMN still have to work on the Benze out front.

Ah yes, summertime! Currently, we have a choice around here. Either work during the day and use a lot of fans, and still put up with sweat in your eyes, or get eaten by mosquitos, to the point of anemia or possibly malaria and west nile virus, if you try to work during the cool of the day. I do most of my work in the "winter" around here.

Not too long ago, I say some pics of JimmyL's garage and about half a dozen fans. Now that is a "Texas" garage.

Buy the high-volume fans, a little bit pricier but do a much better job.http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_6970_754509_754509

Geography and Benz owners

It's interesting to read this thread and see where all of the posters live. Clearly some challenging climates! I wish I could take credit for leaving northern Wisconsin (where the choice is mosquitoes or snow) and moving to northern California (where the choice is Zinfandel or Chablis) but, alas, it was dumb luck.

On the other hand, I lived in Tucson from 1968 to 1972 and distinctly remember learning to put the tools in the shade under the '63 Alfa Romeo Guilia Spyder, so they wouldn't get too hot to touch. I was able to work for about 15 minutes at a time before going inside to sit under the swamp cooler and cool off.

In his book Two Years Before the Mast, Richard Henry Dana wrote that laziness was "the California disease" so I guess none of us are immune. It's certainly nice to laze around and do nothing, regardless of the weather. One of the challenges of retirement is that you have to make yourself get up and do something.

My challenge is that both of my cars are daily drivers, so I can't have them out of commission for more than a couple of days at a time. That limits the kind of projects I can do.

Jeremy
