Well its not a bad thing, its just a real car phone, not fitting into your pants pocket! One day I may need one. From my perspective the only advantage is the range, but thats a big deal, a really big deal.

If I ever need a long range phone I'll give you a call.

It sounds to be like range and speed are the two important features. I live in a pretty built up area with a bunch of dead zones. Having more range would be nice, but its to large. I'd need to have one of those mounted in the car, and another phone to carry.

Cool phone though!
You know, you could still use the phone you have and go with a trunk mount antenna amplifier! There are direct and indirect antenna connections that work really well. You would need the AMP and an antenna mast about 18 inches high, and now there are surface mounts available so you don't have to drill a hole in your car! I just thought of that!

Knight, is it possible to get my old bag phone back on line? That thing had a lot of wattage compared to the little pocket phones of today. I never had a dropped call with that thing.

No! Analog phones are being phased out, if not already.

That I'm not sure of. You see, those analog phones are using frequencies that our police, firemen, emergency medical, emergency management personell and those first to respond to another disaster, want so they can all talk to each other should we ever experience another 9/11! That was the problem on September, 11, 2001 is that these guys going into the world trade center couldn't talk to each other and we lost a lot of lives because of it. Our analog frequencies are still tooting around in taxicabs, being broadcast on lower television bands and cell phones! Being E911 compliant means that those frequencies are NOT still being used for those purposes anymore! It's my understanding that if you still have operational phone service because you are still using it and paying the bill, then you are protected by a "grandfather clause" which in essence says that they cannot disconnect you unles you, 1. stop service voluntarily,2. quit paying the bill forcing your phone company to disconnect you, 3. Use your phone to commit a crime where the crime could not be facilitated without it and 4. Subscribe to a carrier that is no longer in business and no other substitute is available. The cell phone companies are going to pay a hefty fine for re-activating one that would fall into those categories, one that makes phone service for those not profitable or practical. GSM is totally digital and most likely be the only service available before long. I would consider a bag phone like the Motorola or mounting an Amplifier and antenna system in your vehicle to boost your power and range. There are some options there that are user friendly and for those of us who are gadget geeks, not hard to install.

No I no longer have it subscribed to any carrier because it's more convenient to carry my Motorola V phone in my pocket vs carrying that dinosaur over my shoulder. I've plugged it into my cigarette lighter now an then to see if it still works and it does but I can't call with it.

Do you lose calls more in your car or just everywhere? There are antenna options for you that could solve your problem, both car mount and portable!

Yeah, I know. You do live in SW Washington.Calls are dropped because there is not enough power from your phone to keep the antenna station locked on to you.

I've found that there are few tech's who even work for the company they represent, that really understand their own products. The little phones that fit into your pocket only have a 1/4 watt output power and maybe a 1/2 watt for some in the most favourable conditions! You never had a dropped call in your older bag phone because you had a full 3 watt power antenna. there are a lot more people on the networks now and more crowded cells of traffic.

my unlimited minutes service has decent in town coverage, but fringe and between town coverage is nonexistent. ya think a in car amp would work for a cricket phone?
