question about air filter can isolaters
Can anyone give me an idea of how long those little "shock absorbers" under the air filter can are supposed to last?I installed some recently purchased(about 6-8 weeks ago, from here in fact) new ones and all three have died already!.I installed them about a month ago.any insights or suggestions for a quick repair until i can replace them with the same or something that I will create.Or better yet any ideas on repairing them?the metal tabs with the bolt portion have separated from the rubber itself.thanks for any insights
ps-engine does not vibrate much at all.running quite smoothly actually and with no excessive vibration Last edited by rebreath; 07-01-2007 at 12:18 AM. Reason: after thought |

Did you install heat shields? They do not last very long without the heat shields (ask me how I know):

I've got some from here, as a back up. Haven't used 'em yet. Made in China. The shields Craig brought up, I don't use, can trap water. All the ones I've replaced, no problem. None of those were made in China, as far as I know.

And you sure don't want your car to become a mosquito breeding ground!!!
Why do heat shields have drain holes? http://catalog.worldpac.com/mercedesshop/sophio/wizard.jsp?partner=mercedesshop&clientid=catalog.mercedesshop&baseurl=http://catalog.peachparts.com/&cookieid=23H0N2A6324F0KUJA8&year=1983&make=MB&model=300-DT-001&category=B&part=Mount+Heat+Shield Last edited by tangofox007; 07-01-2007 at 10:49 AM. |

yup, used the shields as well.also were new, still very shiny and bright.so, in combo with the shields what should be the expected life span of one of these things. All three have separated the bolt and plate it is attached to from the rubber shock itself.seems to me that they should last a bit longer than a month, right. The ones that I was replacing looked original(probably not,but they looked quite old) and were not completely separated but I changed them anyway.

Replaced mine about a year ago and they're still fine.

Am thinking maybe hole through bolt-rubber-bolt,then threading small cable or wire through and tacking in place somehow. |

not sure what did it.engine runs very smoothly.IE very little vibration.my friends diesel truck vibrates much more as meant apparently.I am thinking that I just got a bum set.so I will try again and then try something creative with the old ones

The shields I own don't have drian holes...PER SE, maybe do so via hole for mounting bolt. Trap heat to speed rubber degdradation? Took 'em out, haven't looked back, no problems so far. TF, plenty of 'squitos to go around! rebr... should not have to alter mounts. Good luck with new mounts...I have several ones made in China!
